Associate degrees from BHC
Do transfer right! Complete the first half of your bachelor’s degree by choosing the associate degree that’s right for you. Arrive at your transfer school prepared for junior-level coursework. Advisors can help you select courses that meet the general education and freshman/sophomore-level courses for your major at your transfer school.
Sample Transfer Plans
Transfer plans work well for students intending to transfer but who have not selected a transfer school. Sample Transfer Plans help you:
- Complete an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree before transfer.
- Complete required pre-requisites and introductory courses commonly needed for an area of focus.
- Build a strong academic record for transfer admission and scholarship opportunities.
Choose a Sample Transfer Plan related to your eventual major and work with your advisor each semester to select courses.
Course and transfer requirements can vary among institutions and may differ from Sample Transfer Plan recommendations, so you’re encouraged to choose a transfer school before completing 30 college credits. Check out the many BHC Planning Guides & Agreements has with four-year schools and Explore Colleges & Universities to find the college that meets your needs!

Course descriptions, prerequisite information and complete graduation requirements can be found in the BHC catalog. The Transfer Plans/Area of Focus will not be noted on your Black Hawk College degree or transcript.
Complete the IAI General Education Core Curriculum
The Illinois Articulation Initiative General Education Core Curriculum (IAI GECC) is a collection of general education courses that, when completed, an IAI participating institution agrees to accept in place of its own comparable lower-division general education requirements. Completing the IAI GECC works best for students who plan to transfer to an IAI participating school but who have not decided which one.
When the IAI GECC is not completed before transfer, the transfer school will evaluate general education courses on a course-by-course basis. Important IAI GECC exceptions (PDF).
To see which BHC courses can be taken to complete the IAI GECC, please use the IAI GECC / BHC Courses Worksheet (PDF).
